BUS TOUR JOURNAL: DAY 1

Wednesday November 1, 2006

During the next six days, Martin O’Malley and Anthony Brown will be traveling across our great State talking about the future of Maryland and the issues that matter most.

Today, marked the beginning of the Working for Families Tour and it got going early with a sign wave in Dundalk.

Dundalk:

Joined by 35 neighbors Martin O’Malley got a lot of honks and waves from Marylanders on their way to work. Always a nice way to start the day.

Owings Mills:

Then Martin and Anthony hopped on the bus and traveled to the Owings Mills Senior Center where they had an opportunity to talk about a positive vision that won’t leave any Marylander behind. Joined by Senator Mikulski and Delegate Bobby Zirkin, they made a big impression on seniors looking for affordable health care and prescription drugs.

South Market Street, Frederick:

After, Anthony and Martin jumped back on and headed due west out to Frederick. There, they met up with small business owners to walk and talk about how we make health insurance a reality instead of lip service. They also discussed the kind of business environment our hard working families and entrepreneurs deserve – expanding markets and fostering a thriving climate for businesses of all sizes.

Frederick Community College:

Just a few ways over, the two took a break to have lunch with students at Frederick Community College. Our students had some concerns about tuition going up at 2 year and 4 year universities and about the kind of opportunities they’re going to have after they graduate. Martin and Anthony explained that with a true State partner, all of Frederick and Western Maryland would be a part of the growth and development that’s coming to our State.

Hagerstown:

Continuing on, the Mayor and Delegate were fortunate enough to receive the endorsement of Hagerstown Police at Teamster’s Hall. Amid the increased attacks and an utter lack of one policy plan or paper on the subject, Bob Ehrlich has left our brave men and women hanging. In fact, instead of fixing his broken criminal justice system, he just flat out lied that crime is down in the state. According to The Sun, it’s actually rising.

The officers also explained that their families, like families all over are State, are struggling with more and more bills. Instead of a Governor who sides with the energy industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the insurance industry, the officers wanted real leadership for their families who are slipping further behind. Just like our police officers, correctional officers, and firefighters across the State who have already supported Martin and Anthony, Hagerstown Police saw the kind of honest leadership that has a plan to move us forward.

Frostburg State University:

After that exciting day, Martin and Anthony capped it off with an energizing rally at Frostburg State University where students, teachers, and local citizens got together to support Martin, Anthony, Doug Gansler and Andrew Duck. There was a great amount of excitement with only 6 days to go. And with the kind of support Martin and Anthony received at Frostburg, we know that this November is going to be a November of Change.

Now it’s off to the Eastern Shore… get ready Maryland, we’re just getting started.
