O’Malley Leads Ehrlich in 18th Straight Poll

As Ehrlich Resorts to Attacks and Lies, O’Malley Increases Lead

Baltimore, MD (September 28, 2006) – After millions wasted by Bob Ehrlich on negative and misleading attacks, Martin O’Malley has increased his lead over the Republican-incumbent by 13 percent just forty days from the general election. According to a new Wall Street Journal/Zogby Poll, O’Malley captures 51.6 percent of statewide voters, compared to Ehrlich’s 38.6 percent.

“The results of this poll, like other polls, show that Bob Ehrlich cannot win this election, and because of that Bob Ehrlich is becoming increasingly desperate in his negative and misleading attacks on the people of Baltimore,� said Hari Sevugan, communications director for the O’Malley/Brown campaign. “Bob Ehrlich is lying because he is loosing, but his Karl Rove-style tactics and negative ads are backfiring because Maryland families want a vision for the future, instead of attack-style politics from Bob Ehrlich.�

On September 24, the Baltimore Sun released a poll showing Martin O’Malley leading Bob Ehrlich 50 percent to 44 percent statewide, with O’Malley holding a 17 point advantage among “frequent� voters, and a 15 point advantage over Bob Ehrlich among “moderate voters� – who are critical in this year’s election.

The last eighteen independent, public polls taken in the Maryland Governor’s race all show Martin O’Malley consistently beating incumbent Bob Ehrlich.

Ehrlich has not broken the all-important incumbent-threshold 50% mark in any poll. Nor has he come close.

Despite millions spent on more than 3 months of negative television ads in Baltimore and Washington media market, Bob Ehrlich’s numbers have actually gone down. A Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll conducted in July, 2006 showed Ehrlich capturing 42.2 percent of the vote, compared to O’Malley’s 51.3 percent. In August, the same poll found O’Malley defeating Ehrlich 52% to 42.2%.
